Wiltshire and Swindon PCC Philip Wilkinson has launched Making Wiltshire Safer - his new police and crime plan which sets the strategic direction for policing in the county

At the heart of Mr Wilkinson's new plan is to ensure that, by working closely with Wiltshire Police's Chief Constable, Wiltshire and Swindon's residents get the service they demand and deserve.

Mr Wilkinson said: "My aim has always been to make Wiltshire a safer place to live and work, with the underlying principle being that Wiltshire Police must deliver the service that residents want - a quality, frontline, policing service which tackles the crimes which matter most to them."

The plan covers the four priorities of:

A police service that meets the needs of its communities - this includes increasing public confidence, trust and engagement with communities, as well as ensuring a quality service is provided to all communities and making sure the police have the right tools for the job.
Reduce violence and serious harm - this includes tackling domestic abuse and reducing violence in communities, a focused strategy to tackle violence against women and girls, tackling child abuse and exploitation, as well as a focus on county lines, serious organised crime and modern slavery.
Tackle crimes that matter most to local communities - this includes focus on anti-social behaviour of all sorts in communities, improving road safety and tackling speeding, tackling rural and heritage crime, as well as fraud, cyber crime and hate crime.
Improve the experience of victims and deliver justice - this includes focus on victim care and support, the impact of mental health issues, working with partners to improve the criminal justice system, as well as reducing re-offending and delivering new restorative justice approaches.

Mr Wilkinson has said that in order for the public to have confidence in policing again he wants Wiltshire Police, and his office to engage more with local communities and involved them in decision making and keeping their communities safe, excel at the basics on greater police visibility, customer service, standards and accountability, increase trust that communities are being heard and listened to and to deliver a service designed to work for the public.

He added: "Wiltshire’s residents have told me loud and clear what they would like to see from their police service.

"It is now time for us - my office, Wiltshire Police and other key partners - to work together to ensure our delivery is impactful and makes the difference we all want to see – a safer Wiltshire for all."
